The Report Viewer 3, 4, and 5

The Report Viewer is software to open, load, render, refresh, export, and email .RPT files.

There are three classic versions of The Report Viewer. We use the term classic lightly, because they are all modern and up-to-date releases, that have become a standard in many offices.

The interface is designed to fit in more with Windows XP, and these versions of the software are maintained for compatibility with older versions of Crystal Reports.

These versions are released as The Report Viewer 3, The Report Viewer 4, and and The Report Viewer 5.

We recommend the classic versions of The Report Viewer for users of Windows XP, or users that need to view reports created with designers older than Crystal Reports XI.

You also have to use a classic version of the software if your database drivers require the classic version. For instance, users of Salesforce.com and Crystal Reports XI would have to use The Report Viewer 3.

That said, The Report Viewer (classic) is full of features. They have the ability to open, render, refresh, export, and email all your report RPT files. The Report Viewer 5 has support for RPTR files.
